Ok.. this time I am going to talk about bus lanes. Hiazzzz.... nothing to do, so I post something, since hzh said my blog is dying.
Advantages of having bus lanes
- Buses are more efficient carriers of commuters, with a higher number of passengers per unit road space as compared to other vehicles such as cars. For example, a single-deck bus can carry 130 people whereas an average of 88 cars are required to carry the same number of people. (Note: This advantages is true only if the bus frequency is high enough to compare to the number of cars that will travel on that lane for the same amount of time. Cars may carry more people because there is very little number of buses.)
- Bus commuter can reach their destination faster.
- Buses will be able to give commuters a smoother journey with less interruption on the road.
- The improved bus traveling speeds help to make the bus a more attractive and pleasant option to travel. More people will be encouraged to take the public transport.
- Ambulance, emergency transport service, school bus are allow to use the bus lane too.
Advantages of not having bus lanes
- The other lanes along the road will not be too jammed. The other vehicles can travel at a faster speed.
- Less petrol wasted by cars during the journey.
- Shorter time required to reach the destination when traveling by cars.
- No reason to implement ERP.
- Reason to increase the number of COE and therefore lower COE price.
- More effective use of the road.
Conclusion
- Traveling by car is more comfortable than by bus. It is therefore reasonable for car passengers to be delayed slightly.
- To minimize the suffering of the people taking a total of two million trips per day, busesshould have their own lane.
